Buchanan County Jail Mugshots Overview
The official Buchanan County Sheriff's Dept Inmate Inquiry is the located county source for jail roster photos. It is a New World Systems and Tyler Technologies inmate inquiry portal. The search form is free and does not require a login. The roster results inspected on June 19, 2026 included a Photo column with thumbnails beside listed people. The detail profile for a sample record included a Photos section with dated booking-photo links, including more than one photo tied to the same subject profile.
No separate official Buchanan County mugshot gallery or daily booking-photo gallery was located on the sheriff site. That matters because the roster is the public access point confirmed by the research, while third-party jail activity posts or commercial mugshot pages are not official county sources. For current custody, booking fields, court dates, bond, and charge data, the better starting point is the official roster and the related Buchanan County jail inmate records workflow.
The official roster results page shows how booking photos appear beside public search fields.
The thumbnail is only one field in the row. The subject number, custody indicator, scheduled release date, race, gender, date of birth, height, weight, multiple-bookings column, and housing facility help identify the correct roster entry.
Where to Find Buchanan County Booking Photos
Booking photos are published in two confirmed places inside the official inmate inquiry system: the search results table and the individual detail profile. The results page is useful for quick name searches and same-name comparisons. The detail profile is more complete because it can show demographics, booking history, court information, bond tables, charge tables, and multiple photo links. If a photo is not online, the research-supported fallback is the sheriff or jail records route at 501 Faraon Street or 816-236-8800.
- Open the official Buchanan County Sheriff's Dept Inmate Inquiry. If the HTTPS page fails, the inspected roster results loaded over the plain HTTP roster URL.
- Search by all or part of the person's name. Use subject number or booking number when those identifiers are already known.
- Check the Photo column in results and compare the public fields before opening a profile.
- Click the person's name to view the detail page, where larger booking-photo links and prior dated photos may appear.
- If the booking photo is not posted, request the booking photo or booking record through the Sheriff's Office or Corrections Division and identify the person, booking number, booking date, and exact record requested.
For a filed criminal case after a booking, use Buchanan County court records after jail arrest. The court record is where filed charges, amendments, dismissals, pleas, and sentences are verified. The mugshot and jail profile can help locate the booking event, but they are not a substitute for Case.net or the Circuit Clerk when the question is formal case outcome.
What a Buchanan County Booking Photo Record Shows
The sample Buchanan County public detail profile showed a photo section plus a broad field inventory. The visible header was an inmate detail page. The demographic section listed name, subject number, date of birth, age, gender, race, height, weight, address city, state and ZIP, and aliases. The booking history listed a booking number, booking date, release date if present, scheduled release date if entered, prisoner type, classification, housing facility, total bond amount, total bail amount, and booking origin.
The sample public inmate detail page showed booking photos, booking history, bonds, court dates, and charges in one profile view.
The detail profile connects the photo to a specific booking history and court-charge context, which is why the photo should not be separated from the surrounding roster fields.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Booking Photo | Thumbnail in search results and photo links on the detail profile. The sample showed two dated photos, and links supported full and detail image types. |
| Name and Subject Number | The displayed name and person-level identifier used by the jail system. |
| Demographics | Date of birth, age, gender, race, height, weight, address city/state/ZIP, and aliases when posted. |
| Booking History | Booking number, booking date, release date, scheduled release date, prisoner type, classification, housing facility, and booking origin. |
| Bond and Bail | Total bond and bail figures plus a booking bonds table with bond number, bond type, and bond amount. |
| Court Dates | Booking court information with charges, court date, court, and courtroom when entered. |

Are Buchanan County Jail Mugshots Public Record?
Missouri law supports public access to core arrest and detention information, subject to closure and restriction rules. Buchanan County's official roster does publish booking photos in search results and detail profiles, but that does not mean every photo or every booking record is always online. The county roster did not publish a fixed photo-retention rule, and the research did not locate a separate official mugshot-removal procedure.
Missouri booking photo law:
RSMo 610.100 defines arrest reports and incident reports and sets the public-access framework for law-enforcement arrest and detention records.
RSMo 407.1150 defines booking photograph and criminal-record website terms for Missouri's booking-photo removal and commercial-use law.
RSMo 610.140 governs petitions to expunge eligible criminal records and can change public access after a court order.
RSMo 407.1150 is not a blanket ban on official law-enforcement release. It targets criminal-record websites and removal-fee practices. For an official jail photo, the practical question is whether the photo is currently posted on the roster, whether a legal restriction applies, and whether the record-holding agency will release the requested photo under Missouri public-records rules.
How Long a Mugshot Stays on the Roster
The Buchanan County roster does not publish a retention period for booking photos. The sample detail profile inspected in June 2026 showed a current booking photo and a prior photo from December 2025 on the same public profile. That observation supports a narrow statement only: at least some prior booking photos can remain visible on a public detail page when linked to the same subject. It does not support a claim that all photos remain for a certain number of days, months, or years.
What is and isn't public: The public roster can show photos, identifiers, demographics, custody fields, bond, court dates, and charge information when posted. Restricted, sealed, expunged, juvenile, confidential, or otherwise closed information may be unavailable online, and a missing photo should not be read as proof that no booking occurred.
How to Request a Buchanan County Booking Photo
When a booking photo is not visible online, use the sheriff or jail records fallback. The Corrections Division and Sheriff's Office are at 501 Faraon Street in St. Joseph, and the Corrections phone is 816-236-8800. The sheriff page links a request-report option, but the county advanced-forms page did not show a usable item during research, so phone or in-person routing is the supported fallback for sheriff records. A formal request should cite Missouri Sunshine Law and identify the person, booking number, booking date, and the exact booking photo or booking record requested.
If St. Joseph Police created the underlying report, the city Records Unit may hold the police report. The St. Joseph Records Unit hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., phone 816-271-4705. The published fee schedule is $30 per hour for research or copy time and $0.10 per page, with 15-minute increments listed at $7.50, 30 minutes at $15, 45 minutes at $22.50, and 60 minutes at $30. That police-records route is separate from the jail roster photo search.
Mugshot Removal and Sealed Records
Missouri expungement and public-record restrictions are legal processes, not informal search-result cleanup. RSMo 610.140 governs expungement of eligible criminal records by petition. If a record is expunged, public access may change by court order. The Buchanan jail roster research did not locate a separate mugshot-removal form, did not locate a promise that photos vanish after dismissal, and did not locate a county policy saying old photos are removed on request without a legal basis.
For dismissed, amended, sealed, or expunged criminal matters, start with the court record and the clerk process. The court records after an arrest path explains the difference between a booking charge, a filed charge, a dismissal, and a conviction. Commercial mugshot-publishing or pay-to-remove websites are not official Buchanan County record sources and are not needed to use the county roster, Case.net, the Circuit Clerk, or the sheriff records channel.
County, State, and Federal Booking Photos
Buchanan County Jail / Law Enforcement Center is the local jail at 501 Faraon Street. Its roster is the confirmed county route for local booking photos. Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center is also in St. Joseph, but it is a Missouri Department of Corrections prison and diagnostic facility. It is not searched through the county jail roster. Sentenced Missouri DOC offenders are searched through the Missouri DOC Offender Search, which has its own public-visibility limits and CAPTCHA gate.
Federal and immigration custody should not be described as mugshot-gallery custody. No BOP facility and no ICE detention facility were located in Buchanan County. The BOP locator does not publish mugshots like the county roster; its public result fields include name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. ICE ODLS is a federal immigration detainee locator, not a Buchanan County booking-photo source. A person may have a local booking only if physically booked into the county jail.
